God’s plan of redemption for mankind takes a giant leap forward with Jesus’ death on the cross, fulfilling many prophecies along the way.
Heaven isn't just something up there for some time in the future. Jesus brought heaven to earth to fulfill the New Covenant, in which God’s word would be written on our hearts (Jeremiah 31:31-34). Jesus’ death and resurrection made that provision available to those who believe. He offers abundant life here on earth and eternal life with him in heaven.
To make that available to us, he had to suffer a horrible death on the cross.
