Matt Baker was the first African American comic book artist to work for mainstream publishers like Fox Features Syndicate, St. John Publishing, Dell, Atlas and many more. But beyond that, he was an incredible artist, well known for drawing beautiful women. His gorgeous ladies appeared in books like Phantom Lady, Sky Girl, Canteen Kate and It Rhymes with Lust. He worked on the first black comic hero, the first graphic novel or at least a comic that paved the way for the graphic novel, and was respsected by his contemporaries and peers for it. He died young, but left behind an impressive legacy that is often overlooked.
