History
The "Regular Wheels" era ended when Mattel introduced Hot Wheels in 1968, which featured low-friction "Superfast" wheels, prompting Matchbox to develop its own competing "Superfast" line. The original wheels were typically grey metal, later transitioning to grey or black plastic, and were often narrow with thick axles, providing less speed than the new Hot Wheels.
