The Chilly Dog | Mastery Minute: Starting a Shawl with a Pinhole Cast On @thechillydog | Uploaded October 2022 | Updated October 2024, 23 hours ago.
Learn how to use a pinhole type cast on when you are starting to knit a shawl.

This type of cast on is often used to start projects like toe-up socks or top-down hats that are knit in the round and begin with a small number of stitches (usually 12 or less). However, the technique can easily be adapted to situations where you are casting on a few stitches knitting back and forth in rows.
