The earliest canon story focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi, Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray sees Obi-Wan struggle to build a relationship with his Jedi master, Qui-Gon Ginn. Set a few years before The Phantom Menace, this book pushes their relationship to the limit.
Not only does this focus on the dynamic between Kenobi and his master, it also flashes back to Qui-Gon's time as an apprentice under Count Dooku (before he turned to the dark side), shows Yoda being a bit of a jerk (no really), shows some of the lessons that Obi-Wan would carry into his teaching of his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, and it also explains both why Qui-Gon turned down a spot on the Jedi High Council and why Obi-Wan hates flying.
