For the sequel to 1964's "Mary Poppins", Marc Shaiman crafted 9 new original songs that go hand in hand with the Sherman's Brothers iconic songs and sounds. As with any good musical, these songs became an integral part of the score, serving as its backbone. This film features a lush and elegant sound, created by a 80 to 100 piece orchestra, reminiscent of the traditional movie musicals of Golden-age Hollywood.
This suite focuses mostly on the score of the movie, not the songs. However, there is one song that appears in a prominent manner: (Underneath the) Lovely London Sky, performed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Very much like the original "Mary Poppins", the opening and closing piece is sung to the audience, either directly or indirectly, by the male lead. It's an interesting thing, in which the song essentially works as part of the score and merges with it, which is why it is the only song I allowed into this suite as sung by the actor.
