These philosophers laid the groundwork for modern science, and provided the ideas necessary to end feudalism and disempower its ideological defenders in the Church. This was an epoch in which capitalism played a progressive role in society, embracing science and reason.
📉 But as capitalism outlived its historical usefulness, its defenders have returned to various forms of reactionary idealism. They have to do this – to obfuscate the real nature of reality – in order to justify capitalism’s continued existence. The struggle against capitalism therefore starts in the realm of philosophy – with the defence of materialism.
