Marwan Tarazi was more than a collector of photographs, he was a guardian of Gaza's memory.
Tarazi was killed in an Israeli attack on 19 October 2023. His life’s work preserved the extraordinary black-and-white archive of Photo Kegham, Gaza's first professional photography studio founded in 1944. Through the lens of Armenian-Palestinian photographer Kegham Djeghalian, the collection captured generations of Gazans—their families, celebrations, work, and everyday lives—preserving the too-often overlooked beauty, dignity, and richness of everyday Palestinian society.
In this conversation with Palestine Deep Dive’s Hala Hanina, Dr Takriti discusses the devastation of Gaza's universities, schools and cultural institutions, and on the human loss that extends far beyond the destruction of buildings. The discussion explores scholasticide, the systematic destruction of educational life and the generations of scholars, teachers, students, writers and artists whose lives, work and futures have been cut short.
