Ryan Gosling is officially playing Ghost Rider in the MCU—and on paper, it sounds like a stroke of genius. He’s one of the best actors of his generation, a genuine fan of the character, and reportedly pitched the project to Marvel himself. So why has the announcement of Shawn Levy as director already killed some of the excitement?
In this video, we break down Marvel Studios’ newly announced Ghost Rider movie, Gosling’s potential as Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch, and why Levy may be far too safe and visually uninspired for a supernatural Marvel film with this much potential.
Shawn Levy has proven that he can handle massive studio productions, comedy, spectacle, and emotional father-son stories. But Ghost Rider needs more than competence. It needs horror, atmosphere, personality, and a filmmaker willing to embrace the character’s darker, stranger side. Directors like Sam Raimi, Scott Derrickson, or Fede Álvarez feel far better suited to bringing Marvel’s Spirit of Vengeance to life.
We also discuss what Ghost Rider could mean for the future of the MCU, including a possible Midnight Sons movie featuring Moon Knight, Blade, Werewolf by Night, and Marvel’s other underused supernatural heroes.
