MARRIAGE FIGHTBACK CONTINUES IN LONDON ON 20TH SEPTEMBER
Dear marriage supporter,
The fightback for real marriage continues. Monsignor Dr Michael Nazir-Ali joined me to explain why one man, one woman marriage must be placed back at the heart of our society. Formerly an Anglican bishop and now a Catholic Monsignor, he is a keynote speaker at a conference to renew the “Westminster Declaration” with marriage at its centre. Watch our brief discussion here:
Msgr Nazir-Ali says the culture needs solid foundations. “I personally don’t think you can separate values from the beliefs that give rise to them.” The declaration puts those beliefs on record and calls the nation back to what works.
On outcomes, he is direct: “It is good for the children and of course it is good for society.” Real marriage belongs at the heart of policy, education and community life. It should not be pushed aside.
Msgr Nazir-Ali also addresses this week’s headlines after the new Pope met Fr James Martin, a leading US LGBT campaigner. Dr Michael is clear: “Meeting somebody is not necessarily to endorse their view.” On doctrine, “there is no possibility of that changing”.
The gathering is in central London on 20 September and tickets are £10. There are breakout sessions on the key issues. I will be leading the marriage session, supported by Dr Julie Maxwell (C4M Board member). We would be glad to meet supporters in person.
At C4M the aim is clear. Wherever possible, children being raised by their own married mum and dad are celebrated and supported. There must be freedom to promote marriage as the lifelong, exclusive union of one man and one woman. The renewed declaration restates what marriage means and why it matters. It must remain central to our common life.
