British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage is one of the most distinctive and powerful voices in European modern music. He has already produced a large body of chamber and orchestral music (Two Vocalises, Blood on the Floor) and won critical acclaim in the opera house (The Silver Tassie, Greek). His collaborations with celebrated jazz musicians have forged a new kind of contemporary music, in which classical and jazz collide and produce new sound worlds. The focus of the documentary "Mark-Anthony Turnage: Getting Scorched" is the genesis of such a project – Scorched, a collaboration concert and album with jazz composer John Scofield (released in 2004).

Scorched is a collaboration between Turnage and American jazz guitarist-composer John Scofield, another acclaimed pioneer of the exhilarating world of musical fusion. It was the second time these two open-minded artists had worked together on such a venture, the first resulting in the highly-acclaimed Blood on the Floor (1996). Scored for jazz trio, big band and symphony orchestra, Scofield’s compositions served as the musical foundation for Turnage’s fertile orchestral imagination.
