NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Allies remain united in their commitment to collective defence and to each other.
Speaking alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels, Rutte said NATO is clear-eyed about the threats it faces and the importance of working closely with the European Union.
He stressed that NATO and the EU must cooperate to ensure Europe has the capabilities needed to address today’s security challenges.
Rutte said this means investing more in defence — a commitment Allies made at the NATO Summit in The Hague.
He said that commitment is already becoming reality, with Allies increasing defence spending and strengthening Europe’s ability to respond to threats.
His message was clear: unity is essential, but unity alone is not enough. NATO Allies must invest, build capabilities and work with the European Union to keep Europe safe.
