Taylor Kutis, who met Mario Fernandez while they were both in ROTC at Vanderbilt University, testified about their relationship and a brief romantic fling. Kutis said Fernandez described his marriage to Shanna Gardner as a “contract” he had worked out with Gardner’s parents. She also testified that Fernandez mentioned Jared Bridegan’s death, telling her he died after a hit-and-run. Fernandez and Gardner are accused of funding a murder-for-hire plot targeting Bridegan, who was embroiled in a bitter custody dispute with Gardner when he was shot and killed.
