Marduk’s Wedding is a famous spring festival in ancient Babylon. The city honors Marduk, the king of the gods. He weds the goddess Sarpanitu. The people celebrate this holy marriage to bring luck, rain, and good crops for the whole new year. The ceremony is a massive 12-day event during the spring month of Nisan. The Statue Procession: Priests move the gold statues of Marduk and Sarpanitu out of the Esagila temple. The Akitu House: The statues travel down the famous Ishtar Gate into a special garden house outside the city walls. The Sacred Vows: The gods "speak" to each other and share a holy marriage bed in the temple’s private, sacred rooms. The Feast: Citizens throw huge parties. They eat, dance, and watch plays about Marduk fighting the sea monster Tiamat to create the world. Babylonians believe that if the gods are happy and married, the city will stay safe and rich. At Lord Marduk's wedding to the human Sarpanit. His Igigi gold ore refinement team from Mars had abducted Earth women, and mated with them. But, due to an alteration in their molecular gravity from the time spent on Mars, he and his team would give birth to a race of hybrid children who would grow to become literal giants. It had been with reluctant approval that the Anunnaki High Council had allowed these rebellious Igigi workers to keep their human brides and their raise families. Some of them stayed at their holdout at the spaceport of Baalbek, and they became known as "The Children of the Rocketship". And, under invitation from Marduk and Sarpanit. some of the Igigi families moved to Egypt. The rest of them moved up into the High Mountains, and they gave birth to a race of beings known as the Frost Giants.
