Founded in the year 2035 to man the Gungnir Orbital Defense Grid, the New USSR's Space Forces were the military arm of the New USSR's Ministry of Extra-Terrestrial Exploration. Nearly 500 years later, the Space Forces underwent a massive reorganization effort in the year 2500 to usher in a new era of Soviet military might in space, when insurrectionist forces broke away from the New USSR in the Frontier. These rogue colonies then waged open warfare on systems loyal to the New USSR and the Federation of Sovereign Nations as a whole. The Space Forces were then deployed in response by Premier Mikhail Karzhensky, and thus began the Frontier Wars, a long and grueling conflict that spanned across the Galaxy on thousands of worlds.
