OK! So this cover was probably one of the easiest covers that I have worked on, despite the fact that I do not play drums. Also, I actually did not play the electronic kit this time. Instead I hopped on the Alesis SamplePad Pro that I purchased some time last year and did 2 different channels. One channel was a take to imitate a drum kit without the kick drum, and the second channel was the kick itself. Now I did my best to not turn this into a complete trainwreck, but again, I do not play drums as a main instrument.
As far as why I did this particular VGM as a cover, I was recently playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles and even though Marble Garden Zone was an annoying zone to get through (especially Act II), I was kinda digging the groove this soundtrack was putting out there. The nervous thing I was worried about, however, was how I was going to pull of the "bop bop, shoo be do ba" part that I played on the guitar because guitar, also, despite it being one of the first instruments I learned, is not my main instrument. I actually think the bass and the guitar fill the funk groove pretty nicely.
I tend to avoid doing anything to make the bass stand out because where I'm from, I'm very well known as a bassist in church and in the area of the church I go to. That's one of the reasons I want to get better at sax and guitar and even keys. But even if I do, that doesn't change the fact that I know my way around the bass pretty well, so I actually, now, acknowledge the fact that I'm a bassist and proud of it. Enough of that. Time to go fast.
