In a wild, back-and-forth game, Maple Grove's American Legion baseball team edged Buffalo 17-16 in the winner's bracket in Substate 10 play. With a strong wind blowing out at Gleason Fields in Maple Grove, each team hit three homeruns. Maple Grove built a 13-2 lead before Buffalo stormed back with nine runs in the bottom of the third to pull within 13-11. After Buffalo tied the game at 13-13, Maple Grove's Oliver Taynton hit his second homerun of the game to make it 15-13 MG. Buffalo again battled back, tying the game 16-16 on a two-run triple by Dolen Brisk in the sixth inning. Maple Grove scored last, with Ian Schock knocking in Evan O'Dwyer with an RBI single in the top of the seventh for the 17-16 win. Maple Grove advances to the winner's bracket final Saturday morning.
