Learn Manx | Manx place names: Beg & Mooar @learnmanx | Uploaded February 2022 | Updated October 2024, 18 hours ago.
An exploration of an important part of so many of the Isle of Man's great Manx language place names: Beg/Veg and Mooar/Vooar.
There are many places all over the Isle of Man which have 'Beg' (or 'Veg') as a part of their name. There is a very good reason for this, and knowing what it means helps us understand something of the history of the place.
And, of course, understanding the meaning of 'beg' explains why there is sometimes a 'mooar' (or 'vooar') to be found nearby...
This is one in a series of films exploring the Manx in places names all over the Island.
