The first of 175 local workers are on site at Newport manufacturing facility ready for the manufacture of Melbourne’s new fleet of high capacity metro trains.
The fleet will be made from 60 per cent local content including bogie frames from Bendigo, traction and electrical systems from Morwell and key electrical components from Hallam.
The project delivers 65 bigger, better trains for Melbourne and results in 1,100 local jobs.
