On the occasion of the 500 year commemoration of the death of King Manuel I of Portugal, this conference looks at the architectural development brought forth by the Portuguese Explorations, particularly the creation of the uniquely Portuguese architectural stile known as “Manueline.” From this point of departure, panelists Paulo Pereira (Professor of Architecture, University of Lisbon) and Nuno Senos (Assistant Professor, History of Art Department, FCSH, Universidade Nova de Lisboa) discuss current trends in Portuguese Architecture and its implications on the iconographic narrative of present day Portugal.
