A maker of pet products and Manitoba's bioscience sector are trying to navigate a new world after the U.S. imposed massive tariffs on certain Canadian goods.

"We're jumping from zero to 52.5 per cent [tariffs]. After some resettling and stuff and taking a deep breath in and out, this is going to be a challenging time, we know that," said Andrew Churley, co-founder of Optimus Gear, which designs and manufactures vehicle safety harnesses and tethers for dogs, along with other accessories.

The company, headquartered in Grand Pointe, just south of Winnipeg, gets 35 per cent of its business from the U.S.
