Released in 1992 – two decades after his classic album ‘Harvest’ – Neil Young’s ‘Harvest Moon’ features a title track based around a distinctive acoustic guitar part that floats over brushed snare drum and lap steel guitar fills. It’s immediately recognizable and remarkably simple to play!
In this video lesson Elixir Strings artist Mandy Rowden breaks down the first part of the riff that opens the song. Using on the top four strings only, the phrase involves a melody line played over a static chord – a great device for any acoustic player to master and in this case, easy enough for even relative beginners to tackle!
