Tom tells a wonderful story about his path from the job in the US Navy to his job in Africa, where he has been through more than majority of us can imagine. The scarcity of professional support made him appreciate the ability to improvise and to try out things the best way possible with the essential aim of saving a life. Since he fell in love with Africa, he supported and cared for thousands of patients even during war times. His spiritual fuel makes it possible for him not to give up even in the worst moments. Our open and honest exchange about the relation between medicine and economy might cause an uproar, but it is a discussion we need to have.
