Abstract: For this theme, we propose presenting our initial findings from a global study on mandated shunning within faith-based communities. Mandated shunning is a structured and coercive practice, often enforced by high-control (cultic) religious authorities, that compels group members to ostracise those perceived as violating the community’s key tenets. This social exclusion results from formal or informal directives demanding cessation of all social and familial connections with the individual involved. The psychological, social, and economic impact on the shunned individual is often profound and enduring.
