FWC’s marine mammal rescue staff responded to a call from a concerned citizen about an excessively buoyant manatee with a watercraft injury. With help from FWC Law Enforcement and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, the 8-foot manatee was captured and transported to Miami Seaquarium for rehabilitation. Five months later, after a successful rehabilitation the manatee was medically cleared to be released back into the wild. Staff measured, weighed, and tagged the animal with a microchip before she was released at Shepard Park in Stuart, the same location she was rescued five months earlier.
