NOAA Fisheries shark biologist, Cindy Tribuzio explains the science behind assessing the age of a shark–in this case– the Pacific spiny dogfish, and finding out their range and areas that they travel. The Pacific spiny dogfish is one of the three species of sharks that NOAA Fisheries manages in the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea, and the Aleutian Islands area.
