The man who photographed Tupac Shakur minutes before he was shot testified on Friday that a Las Vegas police officer threw him to the ground and searched his vehicle.
Leonard Jefferson was going to follow Shakur and Suge Knight to Club 662 at Shakur's invitation when Shakur was shot. Jefferson testified in Duane "Keefe D" Davis' trial on Friday (August 21, day 5) and said he saw Knight outside of his BMW yelling, "My man Pac got shot. My man Pac got shot. We need help. Pac got shot."
Jefferson said he "kind of blanked out" and didn't hear what an officer said before the officer approached Suge and "Suge got up and they walked over to the passenger side of the car."
"And then at some point, do they go over to the passenger side and deal with Mr. Shakur?" asked Binu Palal, a deputy district attorney in Clark County, Nevada.
"Yes," Jefferson answered.
"Can you tell us about that?" Palal asked.
Jefferson said an officer "rolled up in a vehicle. He ran up and pulled a gun on me, and ordered me out of the car."
"He opened my door and just threw me down, snatched me out of the car and threw me down on the ground. Now I'm like prone down on the ground. ... I can see what's going on with the with the you know with the police and Suge," he said.
"Did the officer gave you an explanation as to why he was treating you in such a manner?" Palal asked.
"Yeah... I said, 'Hey, what's going on?' He said, 'We have witnesses saying that you were part of their entourage,'" Jefferson said.
Jefferson said officers struggled to open the BMW passenger door then "I see they pull Tupac out of the car."
"And were you able to observe Mr. Shakur?" Palal asked.
"Not really. ... I saw the movement, but I didn't see what happened after he got out the out the car," Jefferson answered.
Police earcehd his Sububruan, and he gave them the film from his 35 mm camera.
"At some point, do they give you back the film?" Palal asked.
"Yeah, a couple weeks later," Jefferson answered.
"And then do you develop that film?" Palal asked.
"Yes," Jefferson answered.
"And it's at that point that you realize, 'Oh, I have this photo,'?" Palal asked.
"Yes," Jefferson answered.
