What happens when a forgotten 1988 Honda CBR400 is no longer treated as scrap? What if this bike becomes the starting point for an impossible second life?
This project begins with a stripped, dirty, electrically chaotic sport bike whose original identity has almost disappeared: missing fairings, tangled wiring, aged fluids, a questionable engine, corroded parts, and a frame waiting to be understood again.
The mechanic starts from the core, the only place that makes sense. He removes the engine, drains the old coolant and oil, opens the cases, discovers years of internal contamination, cleans the sludge, inspects the camshafts, pistons, crankcase, carburetors, wiring, brakes, suspension, wheels, and frame, then rebuilds the machine piece by piece until the forgotten Honda begins to recover its mechanical strength.
Once the CBR400’s inline-four engine, chassis, brakes, suspension, and electrical system are brought back under control, the project takes a radical turn. Instead of recreating the rounded 1980s Honda fairings, the mechanic builds an entirely new body by hand, shaping the idea first with sculpting material, then translating it into cardboard templates, cutting it into sheet metal, welding the panels, and refining the bike into a sharp, futuristic custom machine.
The result keeps the soul of the original CBR400 (compact, high-revving, mechanical, and aggressive), but replaces its lost factory look with a one-off angular silhouette that feels more like a prototype than a restoration.
