A man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player and a wealthy real estate investor is facing federal wire fraud charges after investigators say he and an alleged accomplice defrauded more than two dozen women out of about $1.3 million across four states.
Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, and Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, have been charged in Portland with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.
How did they do it?
According to court documents, beginning in February 2022, Love and Chan created fictitious investments to defraud women in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California. Authorities say Love met most of the women online through dating apps, and Chan falsely posed as Love’s financial adviser to build trust and “demonstrate the validity of the investments.”
