Fire units, U.S. Army personnel and U.S. Border Patrol agents responded to the fall, which turned into a rescue operation. The man was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso for treatment. Fire officials said the man suffered back injuries.

Fire officials said the man fell 25 to 30 feet into a ravine and was found by Border Patrol and military personnel. Sunland Fire drove up the Cristo Rey Trail on an off-road vehicle with a patient carrier and brought the man down.
