Tucked deep in the Japanese countryside, this wasn’t a property anymore. It was a forgotten scar in the forest. A place swallowed by bamboo, buried under debris, and shaped by years of neglect until it looked more like a landslide waiting to happen than a home anyone could return to. The land was unstable, the paths were gone, and the entire site felt abandoned by time itself. But that’s exactly the kind of challenge that Tengoku Camp lives for.
In this project, the team takes on one of their most dramatic transformations yet: turning a destroyed, overgrown mountainside into a clean, functional retreat where every surface has purpose again. They carve new walking routes into the slope, build natural retaining structures from logs and branches, restore drainage to control erosion, and reshape the terrain into something stable, safe, and beautiful.
Step by step, the chaos becomes order, and the wilderness becomes home.
