Magaluf Undercover Predators and Parties | Short documentary
After countless reports of rape, assault and sexual harassment of young women and girls on European party destination holidays, Ellie Flynn heads to Magaluf in Mallorca - situated in the region with the highest number of sexual assaults in Spain. Ellie and her team are secretly filming in clubs, on the strip and at its adjoining beach, after dark, as they pretend to be drunk and underage. What they capture shocks them to the core. Filmed across just three nights, the seemingly inebriated Ellie is followed, harassed, touched and targeted by men, who often appear to be working together in groups.
Untold carried out an exclusive survey of young people who have been on these types of European party holidays, and can reveal that one third of the women surveyed had been followed while on holiday and nearly 40% of female respondents felt someone has tried to take advantage of them when they were drunk or alone.
The survey also uncovered concerning attitudes and behaviours towards women among young men on these holidays. Nearly a third of male respondents thought someone was looking for a sexual partner if someone was drunk or drinking. It also found that 30% of the men surveyed had kissed someone without their consent and 18% had touched a stranger in an intimate area without consent on nights out on holiday.
Ellie experiences the real-life impact of these statistics first hand as she is repeatedly targeted throughout her three nights out in Magaluf. On the first night, she is followed by a man who seems to be trying to get her into his car. The next night she is followed to the beach by a man who comments on how drunk she seems, before trying to touch her inappropriately. On her final night, Ellie is targeted by three men at the beach who appear to be working together to take advantage of her.
The harassment both inside and outside the clubs is relentless and leaves Ellie and her team feeling vulnerable and almost at breaking point, with security needing to intervene to keep Ellie safe as she puts herself in some of the riskiest and most difficult situations she has ever encountered.
