Get sci-fi terrain files: augurn.com/go/yt-v2n8weYI-BQ
In this terrain build, I wanted to see the maximum amount of detail I can put out on a battle mat while keeping the whole thing flexible enough to roll away and store. Using some techniques I learned from making a rocky desert type mat from acrylic, I tackled this project with crisp lines and hand-carved detailing in EVA foam.
The end result speaks for itself. This is easily my biggest and most detailed project on the channel to date.
Battle mats like this work great for Warhammer 40k, Necromunda, or any other futuristic large scale tabletop game. I even got inspired by Cyberpunk in some of the design, and it would fit well with some neon teal or pink signs placed on top.
I made this textured mat from inexpensive craft materials.
Notable materials and Tools
- Drop Cloth
- EVA Craft Foam
- Drywall Mesh Tape
- Heat Gun. I used the Furno 500
- 300 Pack of XActo blades Buy em cheap and in bulk!
A lot of the techniques in this build come in from the prop and cosplay crafting world. They use EVA foam extensively for it’s flexible property and the ease at which you can add sharp details.
