sew_through_time | Making the 1920s body, corset, brassiere and panties @sewthroughtime | Uploaded January 2023 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
in this video, I go through what exactly is the 1920s fashionable look and how it was accieved when you don't have that straight androgynous body so fashionable back then. And yes 1920s still had corsets! and bra's!
The thing that really changed was the name of the shapewear garment, with the word corset slowly being replaced with the word girdle.
the pattern I used for my corset:

The bra's or brassieres of this era were meant to create a soft rounded bust, make it appear smaller and more streamlined but not get rid of it altogether. So to deal with my larger curves i used corsetry coutil in creating this to really hold me firmly and comfortably in place while creating that fashionable silhuette. Because of the shape of this eras corset they didn't come in cup sizes since that was less important than the overall circumference of your chest. The pattern I used is meant for a full bust of 38 inches and though my band size is tiny it fit me with only a slight alteretion at the center front but would easily have fit someone with a larger ribcage with a smaller cup aswell.
Here is the pattern I used for the brassiere:
