HOW THE MEET-UP IN CHINA WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE
The largest regional grouping of humanity is meeting in Tianjin, China today—and western mainstream media is going overboard to spin the story.
Germany's BILD dubbed it “the villainy summit” and almost all western corporate media chooses to focus on the presence of Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin, their favorite bogeyman.
“Some call it the scariest grouping you have never heard of,” said America’s Associated Press, one of the world’s largest news agencies.

AIM IS MULTILATERALISM
Such a focus is misleading. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, or SCO, covers 42 per cent of all humans on this planet – more than triple the size of controversial US-led expansionist military body NATO – and its focus is on cooperatively sharing power, or multilateralism.
The SCO, started by the Chinese and central Asia neighbors in 2001, now includes massive countries such as India and Pakistan, and accounts for 36% global GDP by PPP.
The group says it is united by “the Shanghai Spirit”, which is “mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diversity of civilizations and pursuit of common development.”

WHAT THE MEDIA SAYS
But the western mainstream media paints a very different picture. “Red carpet for Putin at the villainy summit in China,” said top German news publication Bild. The strap headline is: “Autokraten unter sich” (“Autocrats are gathering.”)
The AP said the SCO’s: “…goals and programs remain murky and name recognition low. Some call it the scariest grouping you have never heard of.”
The New York Times says the Summit “shows how Mr. Xi is trying to turn history, diplomacy and military might into tools for reshaping a global order that has been dominated by the United States”.
The paper quotes a man who worked at the CIA, an organization famous for being upfront and honest. Yeah right.

WALL TO WALL PUTIN
Most of the big international press, which means the western mainstream media, are focusing on Russia’s presence.
“Russia's Putin arrives in China's Tianjin for security summit,” is the story in Reuters, the world’s biggest news agency.
The UK Guardian opens with: “Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin have met on the sidelines of a showpiece summit in China that seeks to challenge US-led, western-dominated blocs and is being attended by the leaders of more than two dozen nations.”
The lead sentence in the coverage by the Times of London is: “President Putin attacked the growing ‘militarization’ of the west…”

THE REAL STORY
Yet ultimately, it’s clear that most people around the world are tired that a tiny, dangerous, war-mongering minority group – the west is about 13% of humanity – is leading the world and bad-mouthing everyone else. That cannot continue.
