I'm just getting started with blacksmithing. I'm going to try and use charcoal as my fuel source since its essentially free to me and it burns pretty clean. I've been using what I call an inverted barrel kiln, one in which a smaller barrel is filled with wood and then placed upside down inside a larger barrel. Placing the smaller barrel inside without wood falling out is a pain, so I decided to just try a lid instead of inverting the can.
Some pretty interesting stuff happens during this burn.
