frank howarth | Making a Walnut and Maple Cityscape Bowl @frankmakes | Uploaded 3 years ago | Updated 3 minutes ago
I have made another segmented wood turned bowl. This bowl is a 5-year wedding anniversary bowl for my brother-in-law and his wife. It is made from maple and walnut. The maple is from a tree from the house that my brother-in-law grew up in. The walnut is from a local tree I helped mill. I have made the bottom of the bowl out of the maple and the top of the bowl out of the walnut. The seam between the two different woods is an abstraction of the Atlanta skyline. I cut the seam on the CNC machine and fit the two halves together. Then I turned the entire glue up on the lathe into a vertically shaped bowl.
