I love the Korg Minilogue! But I wanted to customize the way it looks to reflect how hands-on and fun it really is to play. So, I added these multi-colored caps to each of the knobs to make it fit in better with the rest of our studio.
When you first get a Minilogue , it has these black knobs which don’t look bad, but it is a bit difficult to see the line that shows you where you are on the encoder. Especially if you are playing a concert in a dark club. Some people fill in the lines with with white-out. I think that is a really cool hack, but it doesn’t fit the aesthetic of how things look in our place just right.
Also, since I’ve been using the keyboard for quite a few years already, and our studio can get kind of hot in the humid Japanese summers, it felt like some of the knobs were getting sticky. Not quite melted, but they felt softer and stickier than they were when I first bought it.
I searched the internet and I found these really nice looking new knob caps that had a similar color scheme to the OP-1 which is the most used keyboard in our studio. The OP-Z, also by Teenage Engineering, also has a similar color scheme so I knew these would knobs would help this keyboard fit in better with everything else around it.
I bought the knobs from AliExpress.
They were about $2 US for a pack of 10 and I bought 4 packs to have enough.
I know a lot of people use the Chrome Caps from DJ Tech Tools which are cool too. But for our style,
I liked how the ones I ordered were mainly grey with small splashes of color.
I like how these knobs have a harder, less sticky feel. And the line on top is really great for seeing where how far you’ve nudged something.
Anyway, I hope you like this little glimpse into how I tried to make the keyboard look more at home in our studio.
Sometimes I think about making a patch set for Minilogue, but I’m not sure if that many people who listen to us have one. If you do and you are interested, let me know!
