One step I did not show was that I removed the Zinc Coating from the Flat Washers with Vinegar overnight before I heated them in the forge. Never heat or flame galvanized or zinc coated metal.

These used to be made by a friend and fellow blacksmith, Billy McCullough and his wife Gabby. Billy would bring them in for Iron-in-the-hat at meetings. I asked Gabby if it was okay if I made some and continued Billy's tradition so I am starting to make them. I will put some for sale on my Etsy Page and the profits will go to the Billy McCollough and Joe McDonald Blacksmith Scholarship Fund that was setup at our local Blacksmith Club (Rutherford County Blacksmith Association )
I also have plans you can download there as well if you would like to make your own. (Profits from those will go to the fund as well.)
