This video deals with the Ham Radio antenna assembled of the 5m long telescoping whip by MFJ and one 43 ft (13m) long elevated radial. This antenna was tested in the Field Day style contest on 80m Ham Radio band. Surely, it can be used up to 6m band, provided coil taps are switched and radial length adjusted accordingly.
The purpose of the attempt was to test the performance of this coil-loaded L-TYPE antenna in the rapid deployment situations and establishing reliable contacts in SSB and CW modulation on 80m band with the stations in the range of up to 300 km . I successfully completed the task activating three different locations in three hours time and making more than 50 QSO’s with other portable or fixed stations across the country.
I used two coils in series for the loading but one coil of sufficient inductance (around 30 microH) could be used equally good. One coil was the standard Buddistick coil with my modification ( youtu.be/8gFhqQbrXnM), the other - a standard MFJ 40m loading coil sold by one of European dealers. This antenna requires an antenna tuner (even though, it is possible to achieve a good SWR without an ATU playing with the length and hight of the elevated radial), I used the home made version of the N7DDC tuner.
I have also tried the CGJ-100 version of this tuner with very good success, it could be found here (affiliate link): amzn.to/3NOnmVS
My review of this tuner is here : youtu.be/udN2LyiIbJo
