A lapping tool is used to polish the inside of a cylinder. It uses some kind of abrasive. The advantage is that it will produce a very good surface finish which is very round and parallel. Perfect for engine cylinders.
I show how I made one and how I used it to finish the bore on my Stuart Models Number 9 Steam Engine build. Techniques include: turning between centers, taper turning, lapping, diamond CBN tool inserts, and precision sawing.
My lathes are a Myford ML7 and a Myford Super 7.
