Having been promised the whereabouts of the thief who stole his mask, Kafei saved the Monkey from execution at the hands of the King for allegedly kidnapping the Princess. The King's guards chased them into the swamps and ran into the monster Odolwa, whom they fought and slayed, releasing the Princess.

The Monkey's innocence now proven, it doesn't take long for the King's mistake to be laid bare, much to the outrage of the Princess who had originally sent the Monkey to get help.
While she chastises her father, Kafei presses the Monkey on his promise...
