Majūō / King of Demons is a SNES action-platformer that never left Japan. I got recommended this game by someone online, and decided to try it out. It's a really good platformer with a grim and murky atmosphere. The main draw is that you can transform into different demons after each stage, and you can either upgrade the demon form if you like it or turn into a different demon if you don't. It kind of reminded me of Shin Megami Tensei a bit! The music's also pretty good at setting the mood for each stage.

There are two endings - a good ending, and a bad ending. I didn't go for this when recording, but I believe you're stuck with it if you don't try each demon once. To get the good ending, you need to get the red, green and blue orbs after each stage. That will allow you to become what I've heard is called the Dark Angel, the strongest demon in the game. If you're gunning for the good ending, the order in which you collect the orbs DOES NOT MATTER. I keep seeing this claim go around from a GameFAQs walkthrough that you need to get them in a specific order (red, green, then blue), and only then will the platinum orb show up in Stage 6, but I was able to get it with a different order (in this case, blue, red, then green). Granted, having those respective forms in each stage can and will most likely make things easier, which is where I suspect the misinformation started in the first place, but I chose not to do it in this playthrough to prove a point.

I can't think of any major issues I have with the game, honestly! I guess the train stage goes on for a little long and is a little annoying with bottomless pits, but that's purely a skill issue. Also, I kinda wish the ending had a little extra text if you beat the final boss with your fairy intact, since she's supposed to be your wife/Iria's mother, but that might be way too specific for something that's way too easy to lose.

Overall, I had a blast with this game! I might try Hard Mode in the near future, and I can see myself coming back to play this game once in a while!
