An enlisted in-flight refueling specialist operates the extended "flying boom" from the tail of the tanker (KC-135 as shown in video). By utilizing a receptacle where the "boomer" inserts the "flying boom" of the tanker, USAF aircraft perform mid-air refuel frequently during both normal training sorties and when deployed.
