Did you know that every electrical current creates a magnetic field? That also includes the electrical signals that control your heartbeat.

Unlike ECG, these magnetic fields travel through the body almost unchanged and can be captured with sensitive sensors.

This technique is called magnetocardiography (MCG), and it lets researchers create images of the heart’s electrical activity without direct electrode contact.
