This video is one of 6 videos which can be used to investigate how the magnetic field strength around a current carrying wire is related to the radial distance from that wire and the size of the current in the wire. A compass is used to determine the direction of the net magnetic field at different distances from the wire for different amounts of current. The 1st video linked below is an introduction to the lab and shows how to calculate the magnetic field strength using the compass.

The 1st three data collection videos linked below are used to determine the relationship between the strength of the magnetic field around a wire and the radial distance from that wire. Each of the three videos uses a different constant current in the wire to create the magnetic field.
