What happens when you put magnesium metal in hydrochloric acid? A vigorous reaction!

Here's the reaction: Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) → MgCl₂(aq) + H₂(g)

The hydrogen gas (H₂) escapes, leaving behind magnesium chloride (MgCl₂) dissolved in the liquid. This clear solution contains Mg²⁺ and Cl⁻ ions. If the liquid evaporates, you'll be left with solid MgCl₂ salt.

In the end, it's not about winning. Magnesium and hydrochloric acid combine to create something new!
