I've often pondered why life is so difficult for seemingly everyone. It seems like no matter what we are given in life, which topic is about the most unfair thing on this planet, that we have to deal with things that are negative by nature. Death, disease, misunderstanding, evil, all these things. If something wasn't afoot of greater importance than just being humans by coincidence, then this life makes no sense to me. If choosing kindness had no opposition, then who in their right mind would choose otherwise? If being nice and good was on one hand, and being murderous and deceitful was on the other, what rational person would make any other choice than to be kind? When spreading love begets love, and spreading hatred begets hatred, who would choose hate?

My friends, I believe with my whole soul that there is indeed inherent opposition for us to do good to our fellow human beings. I believe there is a being who, although we cannot see, is just as real as the ground beneath our feet. I also believe this being has power. That said, I believe there is an ultimate power for good. I believe the being who wields this power has such love for us as to be completely incomprehensible. A love with which the universe is filled.

This is the pretense upon which this song was written. Inside each of us the power is given for us to choose our master. Born in us is the right to choose who we will follow. We can follow hatred and bitterness, or we can follow light and love.

The choice is ours.
