MAGGIE MAY

A dream of dubious death
Of yellow fire or callous catastrophe
Mine describe our first meeting
Neither here nor there like an autumn park
With a censorious stored feeling
A solid sort of love allotropy
Remains of a glimmering light
In closing ever-pervading dark
II
One short small engaging kiss
Show the eternal flux of life
Reminds now of some sentiment
The nostalgic long deep quest
As our phoenix of youth
Why do we have to strive?
Make and break show sorrow
Of futile false connected bitterness

Always with a skirt for one
Feminine grandeur sobriety of emotion
Flashy blue eyes sparkling teeth
Pleasing face with a scheme
Brown mystical hair so straight
Could never attract your isolation
A small sweet curvaceous mouth
Though never seen as mean
IV
And never a love found in another
Romanticized and biographical fiction
As I say all gives sharply way
It was just a cozy carefree dream

Phillip Taylor MBE was born in Amersham and educated at London University and the Inns of Court School of Law. His working life was spent, firstly at the BBC in London, in the Ministry of Defence and the Army, and then as a barrister at law and mediator at Lincoln’s Inn after he was called to the Bar.
He was Chairman of the Society of Civil Service Authors Poetry Workshop from 1982 to 1986 and contributed to their annual anthology FOCUS. His poems and short stories have appeared in journals, magazines and newsletters and some have been broadcast by the BBC. He has produced several poetry collections since 1972.
The Poetry Workshop was founded by Bill Barnes in 1970. It was a part of the Society of Civil Service Authors (founded in 1935) which now known as the Society of Civil and Public Service Writers.
