A team from Envoyé Spécial gained exclusive access to follow supporters of the regime, the guardians of Hugo Chávez’s ‘Revolution.’
Although he died in 2013, Hugo Chávez is omnipresent. Huge posters of his face are plastered throughout the streets of Caracas. His successor, Nicolás Maduro, constantly alludes to him to silence his opponents. For months, protests calling for his resignation have been met with repression, causing dozens of deaths. Venezuela, subject to sanctions from the USA and ridden with corruption, is bankrupt. Despite the country’s vast oil reserves, millions of Venezuelans suffer from hunger; the supermarkets are almost empty, food is sold at exorbitant prices, and hospitals are running out of medicine.
